Rollins Pass Rd

Jon and I planned a ride to Rollins Pass Road for some good high altitude riding.  We live at 9200 ft, so we rode from our homes to the national forest trails.   Within 1 hr we were at 10,500 ft, after climbing up a rough jeep/atv trail.

After getting off the jeep/atv trail, we were on county and forest service roads which was easier to ride.  However, there was nothing easy about riding with 30 mph wind, hail, being at or above 10,000ft.

Our goal was to get up to the Needle Eye tunnel at the top of Rollins Pass Rd.  We were stopped  4 miles from the top with about four feet of snow on the road (see pics below), elevation 10,450ft.   From here we turned around and headed into the town of Rollinsville and road the highway back home.

At the end of the day we had:

  • 52 miles
  • 4:45hrs
  • 6800ft climbing
